IKEA is not only making moves to create more renewable and sustainable furniture, it’s also helping consumers make the most of what they already have with new furniture disassembly guides. IKEA is known for its self-assembly furniture designs and it is now sharing manuals to help people take apart its top-selling units like the BILLY bookcase and the PAX wardrobe. The wordless guides were created with the intention of helping to “take circular consumption mainstream,” and support consumers who want to reuse, repair, resell or recycle products. The manuals also have the potential to support IKEA’s own Buy Back program when they want to sell their furniture back to the company rather than having to find a solution for recirculating it themselves.
