Undersea Internet Cables
Facebook and Google have announced their plans to lay another undersea Internet cable that will span 7,500 miles between six Asian countries.The project is called ‘Apricot,’ and the cable will connect Japan, Taiwan, Guam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore. The project is set to be completed in 2024 and has been funded by Facebook and a collection of regional telecom providers. ‘Apricot’ will not be the first undersea Internet cable to be laid by these big-tech giants. Facebook and Google have laid thousands of miles of Internet cable and are in the process of laying more. Facebook and Google have announced they will lay a cable linking the US East Coast to Argentina and have previously attempted to lay a cable linking the US with Hong Kong.
