Cork producer Amorim now offers a Top Series range of alcohol bottle caps that integrate NFC technology to fight counterfeit goods and assure the origin and authenticity of products. Each NFC-enabled cap in the series includes a microchip that contains pre-recorded information that allows consumers to verify that the products they purchased are actually what they originally intended to buy. The internal microchip communicates information like serial numbers, production dates and online links that connect customers to additional content like serving suggestions, product information, competitions and special promotions.

With the Top Series, alcohol producers have the potential to create innovative apps to pair with their spirits. Notably, Amorim also notes that the material cork itself helps to thwart counterfeiting, as it is not locally sourced in markets where fake products are commonly produced.
