Nestlé Japan looks to curb its environmental impact with origami packaging. Starting in September 2019, the company will be overhauling some of its larger KitKat products in the region. It will swap the traditional plastic-based wrapper for a paper one. Not only is this move sustainable, but Nestlé was quite strategic in executing its plan, with an emphasis on consumer engagement. Perhaps, the playful origami packaging will give consumers the ability to test out a new hobby, as well.

Nestlé Japan’s new origami packaging will entail that the company’s use of plastic will be reduced substantially on an annual basis. The expectation is estimated to be around 380 tons. This is a move in the right direction.
